Hello Ladies,
Did you notice the border at the top? That's a not-too-subtle reminder to Sell Nuts!! Our next gathering is Monday, November 5 at Pat's house to bag nuts. Come as close to 6 p.m. as you can, and we'll work until we're done. The more hands, the better. My pre-sales are going great - I've sold 84 pounds so far. I'm trying to catch Pam who set a personal goal of selling 100 pounds! Remember we have only 880 pounds to sell and they go fast!!!
On Saturday, October 27 five of us represented the Pikes Peak Area Club at the AAUW Transitions workshop, designed to help those women who want to continue their education. Sharon Roggy and Fran Souchek helped in the morning, and then Rita Jones, Susie Nulty and I arrived at 11 a.m. and stayed through the mentoring luncheon. It was fun! The AAUW group is very warm and friendly; they all wanted to know about Zonta, so we passed out lots of brochures. Several wanted to know when our meetings are. Let's hope I get some calls. The workshop attendees were also delightful. Rene was a possible candidate for us, but she's moving in June. Another dedicated lady told us she wants to become a CPA because her daughters own their own companies and she wants to help them. Deanna Lyons from the AAUW felt the day was a success, especially for the first time. She'll call again when they have a joint project for us.
The October general meeting was informative and yummy. The international food, including pizza, was delicious. There was lots but most of it disappeared. Pam's baklava looked great and then brought tears to my eyes when I sampled it - I helped my mom make baklava every Christmas, and it tasted the same! Governor Betty Edwards made an outstanding presentation about our international projects, and after the business meeting Eva Mattedi showed us slides of her last European trip complete with background music. Everyone contributed wonderful food and many helped clean up at the end. I hope our six guests were impressed with our group - I know I was! You're all TERRIFIC!
See you November 19, if not before.
Hugs,
Kris:)

Talked recently with our "foreign correspondent" Karen Pauley, based in Houston. As usual, she had great ideas about the status of women in this world. She recommended a web site that I find depressing but at the same time hopeful, as something appears to being done to alleviate the suffering of women in Afghanistan.
