MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Shannon Rowan

by Kate Brewster

Shannon, one of our newest members, joined the Pikes Peak club in 1999. She grew up in Dubois, Wyoming and attended high school in Missoula, Montana. After graduating from high school, she traveled to France to work as an au pair. During the five years she lived there, Shannon married and had three children: Noemie (now 23), mother of two boys; Bryan (21), a student at the University of Colorado in Greeley; and Mark (17), a student at Wasson High School. All three children are bilingual, and Shannon continues to enjoy trips to re-visit France.

She moved to Colorado Springs and attended UCCS where she received her degree in education. For the past 11 years she has taught (mostly) 3rd grade at Wilson Elementary School.

Shannon has been married to Tim Rowan for the past four years. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking and working in her yard.

In 1999 Kris Wells invited Shannon to a Zonta club meeting. She joined shortly thereafter because she liked the idea of doing something for women internationally. She also enjoys the camaraderie shared by her fellow Zonta sisters.

Spring Fling Fashion Show Slated for May 12

by Kate Brewster

The 17th Annual Spring Fling Fashion Show will be held at The Broadmoor Hotel on Saturday, May 12, 2001. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Penrose Room overlooking Broadmoor Lake, attendees will enjoy luncheon and fashions by In Style, a lovely boutique located at 1701 S. Tejon Street. Once again this year, members of our Pikes Peak Area club will serve as fashion models. The traditional raffle will top off the afternoon, sending people off in style with their newly acquired gifts.

Tickets for the fashion show have been distributed and all members are encouraged to invite friends and acquaintances to attend. The ticket price remains at $35 this year.

Several members have signed up for fashion show "duties." As a reminder, they are:

Raffle items announcer - Joanne

Raffle items coordinator - Mary Beth

Centerpieces - Phyllis

Table favors - Joanne, Shannon

Seating arrangements - Liz

Raffle ticket sales at event - Rita, Eva

Publicity - Eva

Cash box / change - Nawana

Thank you notes - Kris, Rita, Shannon

Don't forget to fill out your raffle items sheet and return it to Mary Beth as soon as possible. Each year we've been able to offer our guests an enticing list of gift certificates, baskets, jewelry, etc., and we're looking forward to another exciting raffle this year.

If you have any suggestions or comments about the fashion show, please call Kate at (719) 630-8801.

Hello there all you Zonta zealots, we have an opportunity every day to do something nice, so we have decided to use this newsletter as a vehicle to remind you of some of your options to wit.

The Marion House Soup Kitchen needs clean containers with lids for sending food out in "to go" packages. Plastics and glass (yogurt cups, cottage cheese containers, etc.) are fine, and very appreciated. Please save them during the week as they become available and pass them along to Kris Wells, Susie Nulty, Shannon Rowan or Pam Sufak.

"Cause marketing" is here on the Internet and we want to share a worthy address with you. This is the way to make donations painlessly and daily. Click on the link here http://www.greatergood.com and find the links for "Breast Cancer" and "World Hunger". Each time someone clicks on these links an index page appears that advertises a few to half a dozen sponsors. When the counters tell them someone has viewed their link, they make a donation in a small amount to the page cause. It is not necessary to make any purchase. You can click on your favorite once a day, and when you do, a donation is sent. Bookmark this site and make it a habit. It costs you nothing and is a great way to start the day!

Save newspapers bags and give to Kris Wells for Bear Creek Park use.

Save empty pill bottles and give to Rita for reuse by a veterinarian.
