PEAK VIEW!from Helen Smithwick |
Hi sister Zontians!
It's almost May, spring has sprung, trees are beginning to turn green and you can't miss the blossoms everywhere. Life is full of bright, shiny new life and I am trying hard to take just a minute between busy moments to appreciate it all - hope you can do that too - try a drive down Palmer Park Boulevard between Uintah and Union on your way from here to there - it's well worth a detour - the color will take your breath away! We all live such busy lives; I think spring just intensifies that! April was typical, with all that we did; the Area 4 Meeting organized so successfully by Sharon Roggy; the wine-tasting the night before at Laura's house; the meeting, at which we presented our YWPA scholarship to a wonderful young lady, Kristyn Rodzinyak, and at which Tamara Brody challenged us to live the life of our dreams. (I'm still working on that!) Here's what's coming up in May, it starts off slow, but, hold onto your hats - it gets faster! The board is meeting May 2nd at 5:30 at Montague's, as always everyone is welcome. Then things heat up for a while - The Intercept students' graduation party has been changed to May 13th at the Country Buffet, Citadel Crossing at 6:00 - 8:00 (yes - that is the night before the Fashion Show). Please call Kris Wells if you have any questions and make sure that you get any items you signed up for to her before then. Our big fund-raiser the Fashion Show and Luncheon follows on May 14th at the Broadmoor Hotel. I hope you are all busy selling tickets and getting raffle items together. Don't forget to get your ticket information and table reservations to Liz by May 4th and your raffle information to Kate by May 10th. And, before you get a chance to catch your breath - there is our installation dinner on May 16th at Bennett's Bar-B-Que (5245 N. Academy). Then you can slow down for a little while - until next month!
A friendly reminder, if you haven't sent in your dues ($83 to Zonta) for next year to me please do so as soon as possible. If you are not planning on continuing your membership, please let me know that too so I can stop asking you!
Take the time to have a wonderful, Zonta-ful May!

Fashion Show and Luncheon Coming Up May 14th |
Tamara Brody, gave us an opportunity to challenge ourselves by asking the question "Are you living the life you dreamed?" We were able to assess that idea by looking at the wheel of our own life to see if we are well balanced or were flat in certain areas. With this information we could recognize what we might want to address to reach our goals. It was a wonderful program which ended with a poem that follows:
Finding Her Here
I am becoming the woman I wanted,
Grey at the temples,
Soft body, delighted.
Cracked up by life
With a laugh that's known bitter
But, past it, got better.
Knows she's a survivor -
That whatever comes,
She can outlast it.
I am becoming a deep,
Weathered basket.
I am becoming the woman I longed for,
The motherly lover,
With arms strong and tender,
The growing up daughter,
Who blushes surprises,
I am becoming full moons
and sunrises.
I find her becoming,
This woman I wanted,
Who knows she'll encompass,
Who knows she's sufficient,
Knows where she's going
And travels with passion.
Who remembers she's precious,
But knows she's not scarce -
Who knows she is plenty,
Plenty to share.
