President's Message

by Kris Wells

Hello Ladies,

Happy almost summer to all of you! I can't wait for the end of school - it's nearly here. I'm leaving town on June 7 for Mexico and then Spain and won't return until July 3. The other officers will also be traveling on June 18, so we decided to cancel the June general meeting. So the next general meeting will be July 16 at 6pm at the Police Operations Center. Join us for a Las Vegas night after the meeting. We'll roll the dice and play BUNKO, a fast-paced easy-to-learn game. Bring an unwrapped white elephant gift to trade away to a lucky winner. As usual, snacks and drinks will be provided. The social gathering starts at 6pm, and the meeting will begin promptly at 6:30pm. Bring a prospective member so she can see how much fun we have. See you there!

Our annual planning session will be on Saturday, July 21 from 1-4pm at my house, 2609 Rigel Drive. Eat lunch first and bring ideas for your committee assignment. The Zontos and other family members are invited to join us at 5pm for a cookout here AFTER we work.

Those of you who attended the Installation dinner had first pick of committee assignments. Here's the list of what we have so far. Please email me if your name isn't here yet or if you'd like an additional assignment. We can always use the help!

Bits from Betty

by Betty Edwards

Karen Pauley sighting. It was a happy time for me on my recent trip to Texas in that I was able to visit with Karen Pauley in Houston. She is settled in her beautiful high rise apartment with a gorgeous view of the Houston sky line. Her job is very satisfying and challenging and she's enjoying it very much. She sends greetings to her Zonta friends. Her only complaint is that she misses Colorado Springs. Needless to say, my major complaint is that we all miss Karen's being in Colorado Springs!

The funeral services for Sharon Cushman, Zonta Club of Canon City member, were held on Tuesday, May 8, at the United Presbyterian Church in Canon City. There was a huge crowd and much evidence of the esteem in which Sharon was held. She was a long time member of the Zonta club there, 1984 - 2001, and was a past president. We will all miss her dedication to Zonta and Marisa DeGregoriis expresses the club's feelings, "I have always seen Sharon as a strong and very loving woman, giving to her family, her community, and her friends."
