PEAK VIEW!

from Kathy F.

I was reading The Zontian for July and was interested to see the statistics for the status of women. Although there have been worldwide increases in female enrollment at the college level, most (60%) of the children not attending primary school are girls. In addition to education, other areas needing more improvement are (1) health - 60 % of Africans living with AIDS are women, and (2) violence - one out of three women around the world has been abused, and two million girls between the ages of 5 and 15 are trafficked or sold into prostitution each year.

It is good to know we Zontians support international agencies that address these issues. In addition, on a local level we support the Liberian women in our community. We are privileged to host these women at our ice cream social on August 21. Please check the list of items these women need and bring something for them to the social. Hopefully we can be a part of helping them become thriving, independent members of our community.
