PONDERINGS FROM THE PREZ!

from Pamela Sufak

Hello Zontians and happy February. We have so much to do and to look forward to, we hardly notice the weather, right?

Our "panel-of-women-in-non-traditional-jobs", needs a title, and some publicity, and some ideas about questions from all of you, and some plans about finding our audience. Please be a part of this by contacting Shannon to volunteer for an hour, or a job, or to contribute and idea.

We are looking ahead to our yellow roses and our opportunity to honor women who have made an outstanding contribution, or who have been very special in our lives.. Please be thinking about how many you want and to whom you would like to present them. Orders and money will be collected at our February meeting.

I don't know about all of you, but I enjoy the member spotlight. Is anyone willing to take on the coordination? If so, contact Susie Nulty. We love to have a short biography to help us get to know each other. The past ones are available to review on the web site at: http://zontadistrict12.org/pp_profiles.html

We are missing Janet but wish her much happiness in her move and retirement. And we are excited to have Rosalie Dorland back. Rosalie commutes at this time, from Denver, but hopes to be able to transfer to Colorado Springs (we hope so too) She has already volunteered to assist with the panel development so KUDOs to Rosalie.

Quotation of the Month
"Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead."

Betty's Bits

by Betty Edwards

Enjoyed meeting with Phyllis Zell a couple of times these last weeks. It is always a joy to be with her and catch up on her news. She is busily working on a Master Gardner's certificate which is something she has been wanting to find the time to do for a while now. Isn't this great, now we'll have someone we can question about stuff like aphids, etc. Or, maybe she can explain the raccoon who strolled by my patio door during the last snow, ignoring me completely while putting his nose way up in the air as if he smelled something not quite to his liking.

Good news from Rosalie, she is now working with an organization that sends her to Colorado Springs often. We had a get-together last week and spent a lot of time talking about how wonderful our club is and how wonderful it is to have her back with us!

Please mark your calendars for the Area Meeting on March 26 and 27, in Canon City. We'll want to make a good showing for our Area Director, Kate Brewster, as well as to learn things that will help us keep our club on top. I plan to go down on Friday night as I always enjoy the informal meal we have together that night, before the main meeting on Saturday. Let's get some car pools going!!!

Breast Cancer Research Stamp

After a short hiatus, the Breast Cancer Research (BCR) stamp can be sold at all Post Offices again. On Friday, President Bush signed H.R. 2673, an omnibus appropriations bill that extends BCR stamp sales through Dec. 31, 2005.
The BCR stamp had to be taken off sale this past Dec. 31 until the new measure was passed.....
Since 1998, the BCR stamp has raised more than $35 million for breast cancer research. Think what two more years can do.

You may buy these stamps on-line at shop.usps.com and select "stamps by subject" then "social awareness."
